2014 St. Augustine Writers Conference Application Changes

by Darlyn Finch Kuhn on March 19, 2014

Below are a few of the changes to the 2014 St. Augustine Writers Conference application process:

1. If you attended last year’s conference or were wait-listed, the application fee is waived.

2. People who wish to attend the conference must apply to get in. Applications for the October 2-7, 2014 conference will be accepted through June 1. We approve applications on a rolling basis so early applications are deeply appreciated and will help ensure your spot in this limited enrollment conference (we accept only twenty-four participants). Applicants are selected solely on the basis of the work submitted. The committee will consider the strength of the submission, its likely potential, and if they believe the applicant will benefit from the conference. Publication and/or academic degrees  are not required for admission. Please note: The October, 2014 Conference is accepting applications in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Your fiction or creative nonfiction application submission must consist of no more than twenty pages. Please do not remove material in order to have a  “whole” manuscript. Keep the work intact even if it means you submit a partial story or chapter. The manuscript must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document, using the program’s default margin settings, and be double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font. Your name must appear on every page. Poets may submit up to six pages of poetry. Submissions must include a cover letter that contains which genre you’re applying in (fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry). Only submit material for the genre you plan to concentrate in at the conference (poets should not submit fiction, fiction writers should not submit poetry, et cetera). Include your email, phone number, and mailing address. Email submissions to staugustinewritersconference@gmail.com. A $30 non-refundable application fee must accompany your application and can be made via Paypal, using the recipient address conniemayfowler@gmail.com or over the phone via credit card. To pay with your credit card via phone, please email us first at staugustinewritersconference@gmail.com. Payments by check are also welcome. Email us for the proper mailing address.

3. Participants can still take advantage of Early Bird Registration (EBR) if tuition is paid in full by March 30, 2014. The EBR tuition rate is $825. Because we have extended the EBR period, the fee schedule is as follows for those who missed the first deadline: $600 is due by February 28, 2014. The balance–$225–is due on March 30, 2014.

4. Regular Conference tuition is $875. Accepted participants secure their place in the conference by paying a $400 deposit by June 2, 2014. The $475 balance is due by July 16, 2014.
