Brevard writers, sharpen your pencils and dust off those unpublished manuscripts! For the first time, the Cape Canaveral Branch of the National Association of American Pen Women (NLAPW), the Brevard Authors Society, and the Brevard County Public Library System have joined forces to sponsor a poetry competition open to all Brevard County residents age 16 and up. Submissions will be accepted from March 1 through May 1, 2017.

The entry fee is $5.00, and each writer may submit up to three original, unpublished poems in any of the three competition categories: Formal, Free Verse, and Humor. To obtain detailed information about the competition, including guidelines and an entry cover sheet, email

All entries will be reviewed by panel of readers who support the efforts and talent of local writers of poetry. Final selection of the top three winners and the five honorable mention entrants will be made by judges who are professionals in the discipline field, appointed by the Cape Canaveral Branch of the NLAPW and the Brevard Authors’ Society.

The winners and honorable mention writers will read their winning poems and receive their awards at a ceremony on September 30, 2017 at the Central Brevard Public Library in Cocoa
