Picture Book Illustration Workshop

Picture Book Illustration Workshop

Jennifer Thomas Houdeshell

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 1 – 3, 2010

It’s time to “sing a new song,” or rather draw a new dream.  If you have ever yearned to illustrate children’s picture books, come, take some time for yourself, and translate your dream into action. Join us and begin the journey to make your dream come true.  This a great opportunity to learn more about some of the joys and challenges of the business, to gather ideas, tips and information, to experiment and create a variety of backgrounds, and then to compose and begin on your own   sample double spread illustration which eventually can go on your website and in your portfolio.  The workshop will cover topics such as: publishing  opportunities in a tough economy, developing your style, composition,    e-books and pods, borders and gullies, storyboards and dummies, traditional or digital, royalties vs. lump sums, timelines, scanner bed sizes vs. digital photography, galley proofs, websites, contracts, marketing information, “beyond” the story, artist as writer aspects, questions and answers and more.

In a relaxing, supportive atmosphere you’ll feel refreshed and go home with lots of new ideas and concrete information as well as a composed, partially completed double spread illustration. Dreams plus action can enhance your life and even change the world.  Go for it!
