So thrilled for Laura van den Berg, who has been named one of six finalists for the Frank O’Connor Award for her short story collection, Isle of Youth. I think she’s a slam dunk!

Twisted Road Publications editor Joan Leggitt blogged recently about their list of books for 2014, and mentioned that, like author Dorothy Allison, she seeks books that will “set her hair on fire.” In describing why the books on her list had inflamed her imagination, she ended her blog by describing a character from a work she’d just finished reading who kindled a flame in a compelling way. I was completely thrilled to realize she was describing a character from my debut novel, Sewing Holes, which will be published by TRP in 2015. Read Joan’s blog here.
