JaxbyJax to feature Matthew Griffin of FSCJ in Student Showcase

Matt Griffin is a professional photographer and writer. Originally from Newnan, GA, Matt moved to Jacksonville in 2019. Since then, he’s overcome adversity to develop deep connections in and around Jax and now works in the freelance world as Matt Snaps. Ultimately, he wants to write his life memoir, among other personal development works, on how to achieve healing from generational abuse to lead others on their healing journeys.

Griffin will read from his work on Saturday, December 2nd, at 3 pm in the Student Showcase.

Jeffery Knapp to Read at JaxbyJax

Jeffery Knapp is a Humanities professor at FSCJ, a husband, a father, and a multilingual reader and writer. In his teaching he tries to make sense of the intersections of language, time, and place, and connects his students with cultures across the globe from the Neolithic to the present. In his writing he seeks to express his experience and observations of the world through the distilled language of poetry. His work has appeared in Howl! 2016, New Plains Review, Educating for Social Justice, and elsewhere.

Knapp will read at 11 AM on Saturday, December 2nd in the Main Auditorium F-128.

JaxbyJax Appreciates Poet & Benefactor Andres Rojas

Andres Rojas was born in Cuba and came to the U.S. at age 13. He holds an MFA and a JD from the University of Florida; has served as poetry editor for Bridge Eight and Compose and as a poetry reader for New England Review and $ – Poetry Is Currency. Rojas sponsors the Dr. James R. Cobb Student Writer Awards, in memory of his professor/mentor at FSCJ.

JaxbyJax is grateful to Rojas for his sponsorship of the James Robert Cobb Student Writer Awards, now in its third year at the Literary Arts Festival. He will award the poetry prizes after the students share their work in the Student Showcase at 3 p.m. in the Main Auditorium F-128.

JaxbyJax Welcomes Barbara Colaciello

Multi-faceted artist Barbara Colaciello began her career working with Andy Warhol for six years at the Factory in NYC as the Advertising Director of Warhol’s magazine, Interview. Her original solo play, Life on the Diagonal, debuted at Theater Lab in New York City in 2008. A 2013 TEDxJacksonville Speaker, Barbara was a recipient of a 2020 Art Ventures Individual Artist Grant from the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida to write a site-specific solo performance piece Open Heart (ed), a play that investigates the subjects of care giving, and women’s heart health. She’s the Founder and Artistic Director of BABS’LAB, a training and performance space located in the CoRK Arts district producing monthly Story Slams, and community events. She serves as the Artistic Director of Untold Stories, a live oral storytelling series produced by the Florida Theatre, now in its third season, that offers a platform for Northeast Florida residents to share their unique and inspiring experiences.
