Prize-winning Workshop to start new series of classes

Lynn - workshopping

“A writing workshop at our home will begin a new series of classes on September 4, 2018 thru October 9, 2018,” according to freelance writer and editor, Lynn Skapyak Harlin, leader of the workshop.

The Writers Workshop is designed for beginning writers who would like to learn new techniques, or seasoned writers who would like to refresh these skills to improve their writing. Fiction and nonfiction writers are welcome. Topics include: Creating believable characters, Tips for Improving Dialogue, Elements of Plot, how ‘Show rather than Tell’ works toward clarity in all forms of writing, the use of Pace, Mood, Tone and many other writing and submission tips.

Members of recent classes have won awards in the contests of the Florida First Coast Writers’ Festival and other national awards.

The session meets every Tuesday from 6 p.m. -9 p.m. and the cost of the workshop (limited to 6 students) is $200 for six weeks.

Before attending a workshop, all new workshop writers must write and submit an introductory essay according to workshop guidelines.

“Brave Hearts – Ode to the Underground” Art Show and Book Signing

Brave Hearts

Here is what the artists/poets say on the Facebook event page:

“Margete Griffin and Darick Taylor have joined forces on 2 books called Ode to the Underground. Our art show will be a blend of both of our styles, using screen prints and photography!

Volume 1 is Brave Hearts: It’s a tribute to our music scene and features some of our tremendous musicians and music venues that are the lifeblood of Jax. We’ve included links to some of our favorites and a glimpse of the diverse indie bands here. There are so many great ones! Another book is sure to follow.

Volume 2 is Kit’nface Speaks. If you are concerned about the direction of Jax, this is a photographic journey with themes for you!

This show combines street style, fine art, and publishing to tell an irreverent but socially relevant tale about Jax culture and how we can keep it alive. I hope you can join us for the book launch and art opening on Sat. The 28th.”

Saturday, July 28th, 6-9 PM at Chamblin’s Uptown 215 N Laura St, Jacksonville, Florida 32202
