Christina Benjamin at Writer’s Atlier

At 4:00 pm on SaturdaySeptember, 12th, author Christina Benjamin brings her award-winning young adult fiction series to Writer’s Atelier (336 Grove Ave. Suite B, Winter Park). Her debut novel, The Geneva Project – Truth, has won multiple awards, including the Gold Medal for YA fiction at the 2014 Florida Authors & Publishers Awards. The second book in her series, The Geneva Project – Secrets, has enthralled readers by immersing them deeper in her world of magic, myth and legends, leaving them pining for the next installment of the series. Finally the highly anticipated book 3, The Geneva Project – Lies, will be released September 1st, 2015. It picks up right where the cliffhanger of Secrets leaves off.

It is a unique opportunity to see an award-winning author speak about the process of writing her series. Listen to Benjamin read from her newest book, have a chance to ask your burning questions and have a chance to get an autographed copy. There will be door prizes and light refreshments. Bring a new or gently used children’s book to donate to Christina’s book drive and get a raffle ticket to her special prize drawing.

Jazz and photos: exploring the beats

The Kerouac Project of Orlando, in conjunction with United Arts, is proud to present Jazz and Photos: Exploring the Beats.

Join us for a festive opening reception on Friday, August 14th from 7:30pm to 10:00pm at Credo in College Park. We will be unveiling a collection of black-and-white photos by Chris Felver and Mellon Tytell, depicting some of Kerouac’s contemporaries, various beat personalities through the years.

Strange Angels, featuring Mark Piszczek, Doug Matthews, and Ed Krout will be playing original jazz throughout the evening. At 8:00, Keith Bollum of Bellamy Road will be giving us an introductory presentation regarding the photographs. There is a $5 suggested door donation, and beer and wine will be available.

The photos will stay on exhibit at Credo through mid-September.

Bakersfield Mist at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater

The Orlando Shakespeare Theater, in Partnership with UCF, presents an original staging of Bakersfield Mist from October 14 – November 15, 2015. Winner of the 2012 Elliot Norton Award for Best New Play and inspired by a true story, the colorful comic drama will be presented in the Goldman Theater.
