Join Bookmark It for another exciting month of Wine & Sign Fridays! Throughout the month of June, they’ve invited Florida authors for signings and sippings to help you get inspired to explore and discover the great state of Florida. Peggy Lantz is first to grace us with her radical energy on Friday, June 12th, from 6-8 p.m. at the Bookmark It shop (3201 Corrine Drive, Suite 109, Orlando, Florida 32803).
The Historic Capen-Showalter House is opening at the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens. The public is invited to the free “Celebrate the Capen Open House” event from 1 – 4 p.m on October 11, 2015 at the Polasek Museum (633 Osceola Avenue, Winter Park, Florida).
The event will be free to the public (donations appreciated). An exhibit highlighting the story of the house, its generations of residents, and its heroic save by the community will be unveiled during this celebratory event.
“We are thrilled to mark the 130th anniversary of the Capen-Showalter House at the Polasek Museum and welcome the community to visit and enjoy an irreplaceable part of Winter Park’s history,” said Debbie Komanski, Executive Director. “This renewed home will be used to host many of our events and will benefit residents and guests to Central Florida for years to come. We could not have accomplished this work without the dedication of our construction and design team and the support of the whole community.”
At 7:00pm- 9:30pm on Wednesday, June 10 Wordier Than Thou is hosting an Adult Spelling Bee at Studio@620 .
Why should kids get all the fun? Ten adult teams will battle it out to determine the best spellers in the area during this fundraiser for The Literacy Council of St. Petersburg.
Teams must have two to four members. Theatricality encouraged. Registration cost is $75 and teams can register here.
This evening will also include snacks, music and a raffle featuring items from local businesses and authors.
Tickets to come watch the spelling bee are $7 per person in advance and $10 at the door.

Wordier Than Thou is excited to bring their unique open mic to Gainesville, located at First Magnitude Brewing from 6:30pm- 8:30pm on Thursday, June 18 including TBA Featured writers.
The open mic focuses on storytelling and fiction – no poetry or music. So come share your finest prose, or if you’re just in the mood for listening, catch some tales from area wordsmiths.
A featured reader will kick off the night, followed by open mic slots. Open mic readers get 10 minutes and will be timed. We encourage all readers to stay to the end and support everyone who signs up to share their work.
Writers: please remember this is a family-friendly venue and children might be in the audience.
Suggested $5 donation at the door.
