Celebrate Independent Bookstores with Book Fair and Shelfie Contest

Bookmark It Summer

To help kick off the first NATIONAL Independent Book Store Day campaign, Bookmark It will be host to TWO fun Indie-bookstore based events:

On Saturday, May 2 (Independent Bookstore Day), we will start our month-long “Litlando Shelfy” social media contest where customers can earn a 10% discount on all in-store book purchases in May just by taking a selfie of themselves in front of the shelves of ANY Indie Bookstore, posting it on Instagram or Twitter and tagging it with @bookmarkit_shop #Litlandoshelfie.  The person with the most “likes or shares” at the end of the month wins a $75 shopping spree at Bookmark It.  Creativity and exotic locales are sure to be crowd favorites!

Then on Sunday, May 3, join us for our 4th Locally Grown Words Book Fair at East End Market !  From noon to 4pm over 40 local writers representing a wide variety of genres will be lining the halls and courtyard.  There are lots of new authors and books at this summer’s event.  Come by and stock up for your summer reading and support Central Florida’s talented writing community!

SAVE THE CAT…AND SELL YOUR MANUSCRIPT

Join Belle Books Editorial Director Brenda Chin for a day-long writing and editing workshop from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, April 25th at the Franklin DeGroodt Public Library in Palm Bay. Sponsored by the SpacecoasT Authors of Romance (FL STAR), this Super Saturday event includes:

AMERICAN IDOL WRITER-STYLE–In this one-hour session, Brenda and two published STAR authors will give their off-the-cuff, honest reactions to the opening of your WIP.   Each entry will be read aloud anonymously on a first-come, first-served basis until we run out of time. To participate, either email the first 250 words of your manuscript to leigh@leighduncan.com (double-spaced, black ink with your name, working title and sub-genre in the upper left) or turn your submission in when you check in.

PITCH APPOINTMENTS–Again, first-come, first-served, and there are a very limited number of slots available (10). This is your chance to pitch your work to Belle Books/ImaJinn’s Editorial Director.

SAVE THE CAT–Brenda will refer frequently to Save The Cat by Blake Snyder during her presentation.

MULAN, the movie–Brenda says this movie is a perfect example of storytelling. We’ll play it over the lunch break.

MEALS INCLUDED:   This catered event will include coffee, juice, assorted pastries and hot breakfast sandwiches to kick off the day. Hot and cold sandwiches, two salad choices, iced tea and assorted cookies and brownies served buffet-style for lunch.
