Terry Godbey

Terry Godbey, a talented Central Florida artist of many channels, will host multiple events in Central Florida this spring.

Godbey will read excerpts from her fourth poetry book, Hold Still, on March 14th from 7-11 p.m. at the Maitland Art Center. Tickets for the event are $5 and include a free drink. Godbey will read twice at the event.

One of Godbey’s paintings, “Osprey on a Windy Day”, is being featured in the “Paint the Town” exhibition at the gallery at Avalon Island in Downtown Orlando. The three-week show opens with a reception on Thursday, March 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include paintings, sculptures and other artwork.

Godbey will read from Hold Still at The Warehouse on Brookhaven in Lake Ivanhoe on Saturday, March 29. She will read alongside two authors with new books of short stories: David James Poissant (The Heaven of Animals) and Vanessa Blakeslee (Train Shots). The readings will start at 7 p.m. at 1300 Brookhaven Drive, just off Virginia Drive. There will be an after party at Matador after the event.

Madison Smartt Bell to Appear at Winter With the Writers

Madison Smartt Bell, a National Book Award finalist, will host a master class and reading of his own work at Winter With the Writers on Thursday February 27th in the Bush Auditorium at Rollins College. The master class will begin at 4 p.m. and the reading will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Bell is a published writer of thirteen novels as well as two collections of short stories. Some of his novels have been turned into films such as Doctor Sleep. Bell was a finalist for the 1995 National Book Award for his novel All Soul’s Rising.

The Faure Piano Quartet

St. Marks United Methodist Church will host the performance of the Faure Piano Quartet on Friday, February 28th at 7:30 p.m. The group is coming to Melbourne as part of their 2014 North American Tour. Known as Europe’s finest piano quartet, the group rarely visits this part of the world, and is sure to put on a show that you don’t want to miss! War Horse

The Florida Theatrical Association will bring the play War Horse to the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre from February 25th through March 2nd.

As World War One begins, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
