Laura van den Berg Speaks at Winter With The Writers

Laura van den Berg will teach a master writing class at 4 p.m. and reading of her own work at 7:30 p.m. at Winter with the Writers on Thursday, February 20^th. Both events will be held at the Bush Auditorium at Rollins College.

Laura’s first published story collection, What the World Will Look Like When All the Water Leaves Us, was listed in the “Discover Great New Writers” section of Barnes and Noble, long-listed for The Story Prize and shortlisted for the Frank O’ Connor International Award.

Laura released her second collection of short stories, The Isle of Youth, in November 2013.

Alan Michael Parker to Appear at Winter With The Writers

Alan Michael Parker, a published poet of multiple pieces, will speak at Winter With the Writers this Thursday, February 20^th. Parker will hold a master writing class at 2 p.m. at Winter Park Plaza and a reading at 7:30 p.m. in the Bush Auditorium.

Parker’s poetry has been featured in multiple renowned outlets including the 2013 Best American Essays and Waccamaw. Parker also won the 2013 Randall Jarrell Poetry Prize for his poem, “The Ladder.”

Robert Ross

Robert Ross, an oil painter, will appear in various shows and events throughout Central Florida in the coming months. A 2011 Crealde Studio Artist, Ross is well known for his landscape and abstract paintings. Four of Ross’ paintings are currently on display in the Maitland City Hall Chambers until June 1^st. If you can’t make it to Maitland, you can see Ross and his work first hand in the following shows this spring:

Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, Tampa, Fla. – March 1-2, 2014

Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, Winter Park, Fla. – March 21-23, 2014

Main Sail Art Festival, St. Petersburg, Fla. – April 19-20, 2014

Making Mosaics

Julie Kessler, a talented artist who began her mosaic craft after years in the medical field, will host a mosaic class for up to eight students beginning March 7^th through April 18^th. The classes will take place every Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Julie’s advice and all the materials for the class are provided. Come learn how to make something beautiful that you will keep for a lifetime. The classes will be held at the City of Orlando’s Pottery Studio.
