Sandi Hutcheson to speak to National League of American Pen Women

Sandi Hutcheson, author of Looks Great Naked, will speak at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 22nd at the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW) meeting held at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N. Courtenay Pkwy. The NLAPW allows female writers a chance to gather together to share their own pieces and explore the creative works of others. Sandi will talk about her first published book.

With an MFA from Spalding University, Sandi’s work has been published in Creative Nonfiction, Doxie Digest, and Southern Journal magazines. Her novel, Looks Great Naked, follows the struggles of Grace Adams, a woman on a journey of despair and hope – sometimes side-splitting, sometimes heartrending – that will empower people who are afraid to take off their masks.

The event is free and open to the public.

Vermont College of Fine Arts Novel Retreat

The Vermont College of Fine Arts will be holding its first novel retreat from May 20-26, 2014. The six day long retreat will allow thirty-one writers the chance to have concentrated writing time, attend writing sessions and have their manuscript critiqued. The writers will be joined by acclaimed novelists, Connie May Fowler, Sigrid Nunez and Robin Hemley. For more information on the retreat visit Vermont College of Arts websitescribbz.

Journey to Polikua with Rumsey and McDowell

A Night of Storytelling, Music and Poetry. Polikua is an ancient Hawaiian word which translates, roughly to “a place just beyond the horizon, where the human eye and understanding can’t quite reach.”

Show consists of poems, “dream stories,” songs in the tradition of Rumi, Hafiz, and Walt Whitman.
