How to Write and Sell Short Stories TONIGHT

The Alafaya Branch of the Orange County Public Library will host David James Poissant’s discussion, How to Write and Sell Short Stories, TODAY, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 7 p.m. Poissant will discuss approaches to finding an agent and navigating the literary marketplace. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Southern Review and The New York Times. Following the program, guests can purchase books for sale and get them signed.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

The Theatre Downtown will host the play One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest from March 28th through April 19th. Tickets will be $18, and a special price of $12 on April 3rd.

With an insane asylum standing in for everyday society, Dale Wasserman’s stage adaptation of Ken Kesey’s novel is a comically sharp indictment of the Establishment urge to conform. Playing crazy to avoid prison work detail, manic free spirit Randle P. McMurphy is sent to the state mental hospital for evaluation.

Meet the Author: Avi

Newberry Medal winning children’s author Avi will reveal his secret to writing great books in a talk at the Orlando Public Library’s Central branch on Friday, April 4th at 10 a.m.

Avi has written more than 70 books for different age groups and in many different genres including historical fictions, fantasies, mysteries, realistic fiction and picture books. For more information, visit the Orange County Public Library’s website.

“The Legacy”

The Playwrights’ Round Table presents the world premiere of “The Legacy” by Max Gutmann at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center from April 4th through April 13th.

Meeting to select the will of a secretive businessman, three women play a dangerous game that only one can win. Who will it be? That’s the central question in this new murder mystery. Gutmann, a California-based playwright, has set his thriller in the 1970’s and populated it with three strong-willed women, each with her own secrets.
